Kumbh Mela in 2016

Purna Kumbh (Simhastha) Mela in Ujjain was held in 2016, April 22 to May 21.

The gadipati of the Akhada, then ParamanandaPuriji Maharaj, was the first to enter the river Kshipra (divine nectar during those days) in the Kumbh Mela to wet his feet, but not take bath. That is then followed by bathing by sadhus of Juna Akhara, after which other sadhus and then the general public were allowed to take bath in the river.

The Municipal Corporation of Ujjain had been very cooperative. It had a large budget for the preparations of the coming Kumbh Mela.

The Adi Purana describes Ujjain as the most sacred city on the earth.
